Design It Forward

My goal with design is to challenge the notion that expression through dress should be limited to what someone looks like, rather fashion should be used to amplify the individual's uniqueness in a way that bolsters their own identity. While developing who we are through self expression is part of shaping us as adults we are fortunate enough to not worry about necessities such as food, education and shelter, yet these basics are not available to some of the most vulnerable in society, a growing number of homeless youth. At a time when these kids should be able to grow in the joy of self discovery, developing survival skills that get them through a time of hardship and struggle is the necessity.

Organizations like Old Goucher's Youth Empowerment Society provide the space and protections to ensure kids have a chance to flourish. With a foundation built on addressing the facets of universal human responses to complex and threatening life circumstances, YES provides urgently needed direct services to youth experiencing homelessness. YES works tirelessly to connect these young folk with education, housing and employment services so they can regain the power in their lives.

This is not an easy feat and the organization needs all the awareness and support it can get. I am committed to helping through my designs so 20% of the total of each piece sold will go to helping the homeless youth center.

Thank you all for contributing to providing a better tomorrow for those that don't think it may exist.
